In Portugal, in 2010, there was a pharmacie for each 3.725 citizens

Portugal today boasts one of the best pharmacy networks in Europe, providing the best system of pharmaceutical service to the population at the lowest cost.

Portuguese pharmacies, under the constant technical supervision of pharmacists, are an integral part of the national health care delivery system.

The choice of sites for setting up pharmacies is determined by demographic and geographic criteria. This prevents pharmacies from being concentrated in central urban areas and promotes a more homogeneous distribution throughout the country.

Continuous investment in improving the quality of the services they provide helps pharmacies better respond to the needs of their customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Despite being small companies, with an average of 5.7 employees, pharmacies reflect the sector’s ongoing efforts to modernise the infrastructures put in place to serve the population.
