Pharmacy Museum

The Pharmacy Museum is a cultural institution of national and international reference, dedicated to the preservation, valorisation, research and dissemination of the history of Pharmacy and Health.

Portugal's only museum of universal scope that takes you on a journey through 7,000 years of humankind’s history, opened in Lisbon in June 1996 and later expanded to Porto in 2010 with a new space dedicated to World History.

The Museum has around 15,000 original pieces in a vast collection that spans millennia of history, from the earliest civilisations to contemporary pharmacy, revealing the essential role of pharmacy, pharmacists and other health professionals in the evolution of healthcare.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Pharmacy Museum organises scientific dissemination activities, educational workshops, temporary exhibitions and guided tours aimed at audiences of all ages and different levels of education.

More than 20,000 people visit the Museum every year

The Pharmacy Museum is also in charge of the Historical Archive of Pharmacies, which is important for preserving the ANF's and pharmacies' documentary heritage.
