The generation and dissemination of knowledge constitute a structural pillar of ANF’s activities, contributing to the advancement of health knowledge within the pharmacy ecosystem by placing scientific evidence, professional empowerment, and innovation at the service of the people.

In a context where information, data, and science are decisive for healthcare decision-making, Cientis brings together areas dedicated to training, technical-scientific support, applied research, and the generation of health evidence. It ensures an integrated approach to knowledge throughout its entire cycle—from scientific production to its application in professional practice and Public Health.

Cientis is the result of the convergence of over 40 years of contributions from the Center for Drug Documentation and Information (CEDIME), the Center for Health Evaluation and Research (CEFAR), and the Postgraduate School of Health and Management. This legacy, which has been instrumental to the evolution of community pharmacies in Portugal, now moves into a new joint phase under the Cientis and Cientis Escola brands.

Cientis Escola has been a pillar of training and capacity building for the sector since 1983. It is responsible for the continuous qualification of pharmacists and their teams, the universalization of access to all training models, and the organization of scientific and pedagogical events, having pioneered distance learning in the Portuguese pharmaceutical sector.

The combined efforts of community teams and the knowledge generated by Cientis make pharmacies today centers for the production, application, and sharing of living, dynamic, and multidisciplinary technical-scientific knowledge, operating at the service of and in close dialogue with the population.
